Retention of Your Personal Data

Data Deletion and Anonymization
When retention periods expire, We securely delete or anonymize Personal Data according to the following procedures:
•Deletion: Personal Data is removed from Our systems and no longer actively processed.
•Backup retention: Residual copies may remain in encrypted backups for a limited period consistent with our backup retention schedule and are not restored except where necessary for security, disaster recovery, or legal compliance.

Permissions (Mobile Application)
Our mobile application requests certain permissions to provide enhanced functionality and services. Here is what permissions We request and how We use them:
Internet Access
Required to connect to our servers, fetch book data, process transactions, and enable real-time features such as notifications and messaging.
Fine Location (GPS)
Used to help You find books and sellers near You. This information is collected with Your permission and is stored securely. You can enable or disable location access at any time through Your device settings.
Camera
Required to take photos of books for creating offers and uploading book images. Camera access is only used when You explicitly choose to take a photo within the application.
Photo Library/Image Gallery
Allows You to select and upload photos from Your device's photo library for book listings and profile pictures.
Sharing Capabilities
Enables You to share book listings, reviews, and offers with other users through various communication channels (email, messaging apps, social media).
Web Browsing (HTTPS)
Allows the application to open external links and web content in a secure manner using HTTPS protocol. This is used for displaying additional resources, external websites, and payment gateways.
Note: All permission requests on Android 6.0 and above are runtime permissions, meaning You are prompted to grant or deny permissions when You actually use a feature that requires them.
Push Notifications and Firebase Messaging
We use Firebase Cloud Messaging to send You push notifications about important updates, new book listings matching Your interests, seller responses, and transaction updates. These notifications help keep You informed and engaged with the BookSwitchr community.

•Send transaction confirmations and order status updates
•Notify You of new books matching Your search preferences
•Alert You to messages from sellers or buyers
•Provide important security and account alerts
•Share special offers and promotions (if You opt-in)
Managing Notifications
You can control push notifications at any time through:
•Your account notification settings within the BookSwitchr application
•Your device's notification settings for the BookSwitchr app
•Unsubscribing from notification categories through Your account preferences
Please note that disabling notifications may prevent You from receiving important transaction updates and security alerts.

How We Store Your Data

Data Retention for User Profiles
We retain Your user profile data as follows:
•Active Accounts: Your profile data is retained for the entire duration Your account remains active
•Inactive/Dormant Accounts: After 24 months of inactivity, We may deactivate Your account and move data to archive storage
•Deleted Accounts: Upon Your request to delete Your account, all Personal Data is permanently deleted within 30 days, except where We are required by law to retain certain information
•Transaction History: Historical transaction data and related user references may be retained for up to 7 years for legal and tax compliance purposes
Location Data Specifics
Your location data is particularly important for discovering local book exchanges and finding nearby sellers:
•Location is collected only with Your explicit permission through the mobile app
•You can update Your location manually or allow automatic updates via GPS
•Location data is stored with Your account and used to provide location-based recommendations
•You can opt-out of location sharing at any time, which will prevent location-based features from functioning
